The Love Of God: The Cancer That Is Killing The Church

The love of God is greater far
Than tongue or pen can ever tell;
It goes beyond the highest star,
And reaches to the lowest hell;
The guilty pair, bowed down with care,
God gave His Son to win;
His erring child He reconciled,
And pardoned from his sin.

-Frederick M. Lehman

The love of God. It is the definition of Him (1 John 4:8). A love rooted in Forgiveness, Compassion, Mercy, and Salvation from Eternal Darkness, as well as Internal Darkness. A love so deep that God The Son took it upon Himself to be crucified by a shameful execution. That the weight of the Sin of the world, bearing down upon His shoulders, eventually crushed Him. A love so profound that this same Son took His life back and rose from the slate. A renewal of Life over the cold clutch of Death. A love that has permeated through the corridors of churches. A love that has sat in the pews. A love that has walked the aisle. A love that waited at the altar. A love that has transversed the hearts of men. A love that has made spiritual blindness submit to sight, and has turned gray into black and white.

Unfortunately this love has been handled by ignorance. Molested by ill intent. Distorted through fear of the judgment from men. Through time it has grown into that which it was never meant to be: a cancer. It has spread through the church, in architectural structure and within the structure of men. Slowly it is killing both.

How can it be? How can that which is created by God, which defines Him and all that He does, be a poison to the church, and ultimately, the world? It is nothing of His doing. For He remains the same. It is the doing of man. An undoing of His love and a redefinition for what it isn’t. It is Compassion, Mercy, Forgiveness, Repentance, and Salvation. Yet it is void of one key element that completes the circle. That sets the others into motion. Justice.

Justice is removed from the equation because of the intentional, or unintentional, desire to stray from its discomfort. It is so much easier to warm a heart gripped by ice when you tell it “God loves you!” than to say “Repent of your sins that The Christ came and died for!” But that is what we have. “Love” and nothing more. To subtract Justice from the equation gives you sinful and broken men that do not see the need for Redemption and Salvation. A brokeness that is nonexistent. God’s Love is sufficient enough. Knowing that His Love is sufficient means that there is no need for the Internal Death and renewal from a decaying heart. That you can continue to leave footprints in the mire. He loves you in your sins despite your sins.

Maybe it is a concept that is difficult for The Church to wrap their minds around. The idea of the coexistence of Love and Justice. Gods Love and Justice can exist apart from each other as well as our lungs and the air that we breathe. Our trespassing against the Law of God is a great injustice to Him. The Sin that runs through our veins has existed since our hearts began to beat. It is inevitable. Naturally where there is Justice, there will be the injustice against it. Naturally where there is an injustice, there has to be Justice to reflect it.  It is the circle of many that will only break for us, individually, when we meet our forever sleep.

To remove Justice from God is to unravel the circle. Without Justice there is no injustice that answers to it. Without injustice there is no Sin. Without Sin there is no need of Salvation. Without a need of Salvation there was no need of The Christ and Calvary. Without the old rugged cross The Christ was nothing more than a foolish martyr that died a death without purpose. Then we face the reality that there is no more gospel to preach. Our faith and its reason are dead.

The Christ has no longer served His purpose as Savior. He is nothing more than a good teacher with lessons rooted only in Love. Confusion sets the stage for The Believer that desires to turn a blind eye to Justice as they feast so heavily upon this Love. The Christ is then recreated as a loving hippy that dances and skips through fields of lilies, chanting “Love” and “Peace” over and over again. He would never hurt a fly. He would never show Justice against injustice. I’m sure that the money changers would agree. Because of this embodiment of over saturated Love and nothing more, He embraces all. Come to Him ye that are broken and shattered. But His love is so great! Yes it is. His Love is so great that He dare not carry the burden of offense to the table by asking for Repentance. Because to stand against Brokenness and Sin is unloving to those that love it. Therefore Justice must die from the equation of Christ and His message. There is nothing begging for Repentance. Millions of drunken Christians agree. Millions of drug abusing Believers agree. The adulterous, both with body and thought, come to cling and proclaim “My Lord, my God” as they hold on to their stains. Millions of baby killing and homosexual Christians agree with the aforementioned. Christ and God are recast. God becomes god as they all warm their bones by The Burning Cross. Because that is the only purpose that it can now serve. And growing is the church and brethren that are walking this deceitful path.

But what of The Spirit? We cannot forget the third Person of The Trinity. However, to divorce Justice from God’s Love divorces The Spirit from God Himself. His work is to seal The Believer upon the moment of Salvation. To bring them into the family as a child of The Father. However, to remove Justice one omits injustice, because they need each other to survive. Our injustices, the Sins that we wear upon birth and struggle with after Rebirth, no longer exists. Therefore neither does Salvation from Sin. There is no longer anything to be sealed from. The work of The Spirit is to open our eyes to an understanding of The Word. However one must edit The Scriptures of anything pertaining to Justice if they are to have Love without. What’s left is a tattered mess of pages. No longer is it The Word of God, but the rewritten word of man. Adaptive to him. The work of The Spirit is the Sanctification and growth of The Faith. A murderous Conviction that kills our old self. However, without Justice and injustice there is no Sin. Therefore there is nothing for The Spirit to convict us of. No need for self death. The Spirit has no more reason to exist.

The Father becomes nothing more than a new idol created by the hands of men. Without His Justice there is no standard to abide by. The plum line is broken. Anything goes as Love reigns supreme. We cannot bring the stitching of The Christ to the shredded hearts of the dead out of fear that Justice will offend them. Therefore we hide behind Love as the only means and purpose to God. You can continue to gasp for air from the drowning in your iniquity. Come as you are. Leave as you came. Just feel good about the cracks that permeate within. God still loves you.

God’s Love exists as the answer to His Justice. The faulted mind cannot fathom this. It believes that a just God is an overbearing monster set to destroy the broken men that rest upon the roadside. That they should not be disturbed from their chains. It would not be right to shatter them upon The Cornerstone to murder the Old and birth the New. Resurrection of the self is purely optional. This confrontation with the eyes in the mirror is of great offense. Avoid the discomfort. They find comfort in the broken fragments that rest by their feet.

What you are left with are broken men in ignorant bliss. Confused by The Love of God, they walk in shambles and ruin, deceived that they are fixed by Love and Love alone. No Justice to answer to. No need for The Gospel. No need for The Cross. No need for Repentance. No need for Atonement. No need for Salvation. No need for the one true Christ. Only the teachings of a disillusioned hippy skipping through the fields are sufficient.

Justice and Love exist together in the most simplistic way. The divorce of the two exists only through the mishandling and misinterpretation of The Word. Famous is the verse that best illustrates the concept:

“For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life (His Love). For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved (His Love). He who believes in Him is not condemned (His Love); but he who does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God (His Justice). And this is the condemnation, that the light has come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil (Their tresspasses/injustice). For everyone practicing evil hates the light and does not come to the light, lest his deeds should be exposed (Their injustice). But he who does the truth comes to the light, that his deeds may be clearly seen, that they have been done in God (His Love/Mercy).”
